I'm disappointed that the NEED to log-in with a Kobo account wasn't mentioned in advance (ie. mostly open-source / copyright-free / Gutenburg-sourced). The Ugly: Most of my reading consists of files which are transferred from my computer (ie. I'm not sure why, but my Sony Reader happily let me override text appearances as I wished. As well, the charging port should've been flat against the bottom, not tilted upward on an angle - such a change could reduce the likelihood of breaking the connector.Īnother peeve is that changing the text appearance (font size / spacing / margins) doesn't work on all books - sometimes it works, sometimes the book disallows changing it.

The button should've been on the "spine"/grip. The Bad: the power button placement! It's not convenient at all, and it renders this a two-handed device. Great price, given the Sony Reader in 2011 was ~$150 USD.

I think it also installed a software update on battery power.įinally, I bought it brand-new for the equivalent of $116 USD after discounts. Some numbers: in the past week, I read for 20 hours (as measured by the reader), drained the battery from 100% -> 20% (the most screen brightness I used was around 30%). The screen is very crisp! The backlight is great for reading in sub-optimally illuminated nooks around the house. The Good: In short, it's great! I love the page turn buttons, I love the grip, and I love the size + aspect ratio.
